I was just hoping for a fair comparison between the two parties records. <br />Although you make the point that the UK economy in 2007 was "pretty close to trend" surely such an uncommonly long period of expansion might have given rise to caution? Of course that wouldn't apply if you believe you have abolished "boom and bust." <br />Also noteworthy is the fact that government tax receipts declined markedly in 2008/9 & 2009/10. This does not seem to have occurred in the recessions of the early 80s and 90s.
